Kumi Kitamaru is a nine year old girl who has leukemia and she was a patient in the same ward as Satoru Fujinuma.
She is a supporting character in the series.
History[]
Initially, Kumi was awaiting an operation to get bone marrow from her older sister. She watched Satoru Fujinuma go through physical therapy, encouraging him to try harder.
In 2005, a year later, Kumi recovered. She then had to just take pills and have tests every month. She plans to go to Sasanqua Camp on August 25-26. She had already went there on a field trip in her second year, where they had rides and a boat. She also thinks that hiking on the trail would be good for Satoru. Sachiko Fujinuma agrees and gets permission from her family and doctor. Satoru, Sachiko and Kumi all plan to go together.
In the end, Satoru and her both show each other passing arks from a "high school" exam.

- Kumi's surname Kitamaru means "north" (北) (kita) and "circle" (丸) (maru).
